Arizona is Awesome! Although known for its rolling red hills and immense canyons, Arizona has even more wonders to offer. During my 2 day trip, I packed in Canyons, route 66 and the glorious Horseshoe bend. However, here was so much to do in this spectacular state that I could not possibly fit it all in one trip. Consequently, I have included my still to be seen spots.
1.Grand canyon
Undoubtedly, one of the most mentioned wonders of the world and often top of travellers’ bucket lists. I visited the South rim which allows you to do a short rim walk and a great introduction to the vast canyons. The area is so big that the canyon almost looks flat as your eyes will struggle to adjust to its immeasurable size. I would personally not recommend travelling hours to see this side of the canyons, if you are in the area, then swing by as the rim walk is only half an hour. If you’re looking to really experience the colossal canyon, then visit the south rim or book a helicopter trip.
Entrance: $20 or $35 with a vehicle
Time needed: 2 hours
2. Horseshoe bend
Similary, this is an awesome view to visit on route. Perfect Panorama views, that look exactly like the pictures you have saved to your travel list, are just 20 minutes walk from the car park. Midday is a great time to visit, so that the sun scorches down on the scarlet red rocks and highlights the turquoise doughnut river. There is no shelter on the walk so remember to bring water, especially for the uphill on the return.
Entrance: Free
Time needed: 1 hour
3. Antelope canyon
This awesome Arizona adventure has been on my list for a while due to its wonderful uniqueness. Tours through the slot canyons are run by locals, who are highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic to help you take photos. As I waded through the twists and turns, every corner revealed a new view. You could take 100’s of pictures and no two would be the same. Some of the erosion has formed shapes that tour guides will point out and if you find a new one you might even get famous from the picture!
Entrance: $55+$8 park fee – Ken’s Tours
Time needed: 2 hours
4. Route 66 in Arizona
Undeniably iconic and even for those trying to avoid the cliche, route 66 delivers nostalgia that cannot be missed. Being the original highway of the USA, it is hard to avoid when driving through south western states. Everyone highlights different pitstops for viewing and which ones you choose will be unique to you. On route to the grand canyon, we stopped to see the original cars that inspired the characters of ‘Cars’ the film!
Entrance: Free
Time needed: Short 20 minute stops on your journey
