Famous Yosemite National Park Spots
These sports are popular for a reason, no picture can do them justice, but I sure have tried. Due to their high profile they may be busy but nevertheless worth the stop. The reflection picture is always a great memory and achievement.
-El capitan (popular for climbers)
-Half dome
-Tunnel View
-Yosemite falls (Can be dried up in the summer)
-Valley view
-The Merced River
Glacier Swimming
Crystal clear water invites you in, to provide an energising break from the summer heat. Swimming in the glacier basins was magical. Not just the simple beauty of the white sparkling cliffs and mountains but also the refreshing crisp cold water that resets your body. As you look up at the peaks that seem to grow in height the longer you look, you feel small but at peace and can truly clear your mind. If full body ice immersion isn’t for you, then feel free to enjoy the view from the bank and soak in the sun.
Sequoia Trees
Equally as awe-inspiring, the sequoia trees should definitely be on your list, especially as they are the tallest tree in the world, making them the largest living organism. If you haven’t noticed by now, I am a massive fan of massive natural wonders- waterfalls, mountains, trees. Whatever makes me look up in admiration.
The sequoia trees obviously fit into this category and they do not disappoint. Yosemite offers the chance to see them in the flesh and in unusual forms such as the tree arch. To get to this perfect picture spot, you will hike 400m down with trees growing in size as you go. However, I wish I had more time to explore this area of the park, to stroll slower and really take it in, maybe even have a picnic.
Shanni’s Yosemite National Park Top Tips
–Bring food– Food is available from the lodge but is expensive. Also, it will take time out of your experience to queue up. Bringing food will allow you to eat in your favourite spot
-Groveland– This is one of the closest towns and some tour groups even offer pick up from here
–Car/tour- Yosemite national park is nearly 1200 square miles so some kind of transport is necessary
–Check website – forest fires are common and sometimes cause the park to close
I don’t often desire to visit the same place twice as there is so much of the world to discover but Yosemite national park definitely remains on my list. The emotions and calm I felt at this park was undeniable and I long to feel that again. With acres of park I have yet to explore, I cannot wait to return once more. I wholeheartedly recommend you put Yosemite National Park on your travel list!
