National Parks are always filled with formidable natural beauty and Doi Inthanon is no exception. However, different from the others, it also offers Striking Sacred temples. Below I will discuss the main highlights and some top tips for getting the best out of this Chaing Mai treasure.
National Park basics
Location: Chaing Mai, Thailand
Entrance fees: 300 Baht + 100 Baht for Chedis
Opening times: 5.30am-6.30pm Year round
Wachirathon Waterfall
Wachirathon is a waterfall of elegance accompanied by sun beamed rainbows bursting through the spotlights and thundering water falling from 80m heights. It is located directly adjacent to the car park and so easily accessible.
Sirithan Waterfall
Another staggering waterfall, this time situated in the heart of the Pha Dok Siew trail that offers impressive cascades and greenery. You will cross over the bridge to view its beauty up close and continue to follow the trail through the rolling rice fields.
Ban Mae Klang Luang Village
On most tours you will have the unique opportunity to treat your taste buds to locally roasted coffee in the village of Klang Luang. Here you can meet the villagers and support them through buying their quant homemade gifts. The village is located within the mountains, so it also offers a glorious panoramic view of luscious sweeping hills below.
Royal Chedis Temples
Finally, what some visitors consider the main attraction, the two royal chedis; built in honour of the 50th birthday of the King and Queen. These distinctive structures attract many visits due to their idyllic, picturesque colours and design. You can wander through the vibrant gardens and around the Chedis themselves to take in the mountainous views.
Shanni’s Top Tips
1. Clothing- make sure you bring something to cover up and respect the requirements for entrance to the Chedis.
2. Check the season. In the rainy season, October-March, you cannot swim the Maeklang Waterfall or complete Kew Mae Pan trail.
3. You can not get between attraction by foot- Here is the tour group I used- They picked us up from our hotel.
4. You can camp in a tent for 225 Baht per day!
