Bratislava- A Little City With A Lot You Will Love

Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia and offers picturesque designs and unique amusements. When searching you will find lots of sightseeing stops, but I’ve also provided some insight on activities which we found along the way.

Blue church

The Blue Church tends to be the top answer when searching for things to see in Bratislava and for good reason. Its baby blue exterior covered in intricate detailing is striking, as well as its delicately lit interior.

Ultimum

We stumbled upon this wonder by chance on the way to the castle gardens. This is an immersive infinite experience where you will take in illusions that appear to have no ending. From boundless book rooms to cosmic corridors, you will be dazzled in each of the rooms. On the second floor there is also a more traditional illusion museum with accompanying explanation cards and props to help you see the spectres. The best part about this find was it was just £3 (for students, £5 for adults).

Cat Café

With a heart-warming 8 kitties to cuddle, how could we resist? This was another accidental find on the same route and a perfect spot for a quick hot chocolate to recover from the cold. The cats took a little bit of time to warm up to us, but the couch was comfy so we didn’t mind the wait.

Castle Hill

Here lies a castle that shimmers with European culture and gives you a glimpse into the Slovakian architecture. After taking in the historic white fortress, you can stroll through the gardens and get a view of the city below.

Underground bunker

Sadly, this was closed for refurbishment during our trip. However, I have heard amazing reviews about the herbal tea they serve while you sit on the floor at a modest low table.

Bratislava delicacies

Honestly, some of the most spectacular tasting market food I have tried. Bratislava’s delicacies involve the sweet and savoury pancakes, both made with potato and can be soft or fried.

Shanni’s Top Tips

  1. A day trip from a neighbouring country is the perfect amount of time. However, we stayed 2 nights and then went to Vienna for the day, as accommodation was a lot cheaper in Bratislava.
  2. All the above places are in close proximity. You will need to walk uphill to get to the castle gardens.
  3. Use Flixbus for easy, cheap travel between European countries
