(7) International food I miss the most from travelling

Food glorious food! Where better to find the best cuisines than searching worldwide! When you are travelling there are certain home comforts that you miss, but there are also meals that you have discovered on the road, that you long upon your return. These are the 7 foods I miss the most from my adventures.

Greek food-Big red beans

At first I was sceptical as google translate highlighted the dish as ‘beans in red’. Which didn’t excite my taste buds and I wondered if it would be very filling. I later discovered it is called ‘Gigantes Plaki’ and it was more than filling with a flawless blend of flavours.

Budapest Christmas market food

Now, I don’t say this lightly, but this has got to be one of my favourite meals of all time. A big circle doughy base topped with Chilli con Carne, grated cheese and a generous dollop of sour cream. Tuck in with your fingers and get messy with this savoury treat.

American Breakfast

While exploring the wonders of Los Angeles and Las Vegas, I thought I was sick of shredded potato hash browns and sausages …but I was wrong. I often wake up thinking that I want exactly that. You could try breakfast at Dennys, Wendy’s or IHOP.

Pasta from Rome

Needing little explanation is pasta, from its originating country of Italy. With pasta freshly made (sometimes right in front of you!) and local sauces for all preferences, it’s a great reason to visit Rome or any other Italian city.

Krakow Eggs and ham

Simple yet cemented in my taste buds was the eggs, ham and toast from Milkbar Tomasza. Not only was it delicious, it was super cheap too at 13ZL (£2.50) in 2020.

Berlin Cream cheese and baguette

I have had the pleasure of experiencing this mouth sensation twice! With cream cheese combination you would never think of and baguettes to dip in, it is the perfect snack or meal on the go. The stall was located in Berlin Christmas Markets. Some flavours included

  • Truffle and Strawberry
  • Blue cheese and Chilli
  • Pear and Mango

Thailand food-Pad Thai and Fruit Juice

Boy, do I miss buying a freshly squeezed fruit juice smoothie for less than £1! I even tried less popular flavours such as kiwi, but my favourite was mixed berries.

Pad Thai is one of most popular dishes with tourists in Thailand and you can adjust it to your spice liking. I always ordered the vegetable Pad Thai, as I loved all the extra vegetables that were cooked to perfection.

I hope to expand this list as I discover new countries and try more dishes. If you have any crazy favourites that I need to investigate,  let me know!
